Micha Bergese
Director
Micha Bergese has won international recognition not only as a creator of original modern dance theatre but also for his circus shows, choreographies and direction. In the past twenty-five years he has created more than seventy-five productions worldwide.
After his classical training in London, he worked for ten years as a soloist and associate choreographer with the distinguished London Contemporary Dance Theatre. In 1980 he created his own group, the Mantis Dance Company, which toured thirty-five countries and became known worldwide for its innovative and expressive choreography.
In 1987, Mr Bergese, a native of Germany, expanded into film, rock and roll and circus. He has since worked as a director and choreographer with some of the most well-known names in the music world, such as Mick Jagger, Leonard Cohen, Julio Iglesias, The Pogues, Tina Turner and many others. He has directed Princess Stephanie, Naomi Campbell, Sarah Brightman and other personalities in live performances.
In 1991 Mr Bergese received the prestigious ToHo-Award for the clip 'Dustbin Dance' (STOMP), in the category 'Dance Video of the Year' for choreography.
'Circus Salome' won various awards in Germany with his productions 'Zaubervogel' and 'Der Magier'. Mr Bergese directed 'Fashion Circus' in 1997 as part of a Clothes Show Live at Birmingham NEC. Sarah Brightman's 'Eden' was premiered in March 1999 and continued on a world tour.
In many Anglo-American movies, Micha Bergese was responsible not only for choreographing the movements of the actors, he also aced in starring roles such as in 'Company of Wolves' with Angela Lansbury, David Warner, Stephen Rea; in 'Zina' with Domiziana Giordano, Ian McKellen; in 'High Spirits' with Peter O'Toole, Daryl Hannah and Liam Neeson. He created the mis en scene for 'Interview With a Vampire' with Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas and Christian Slater.
Mr Bergese is currently working as the Artistic Director and Choreographer of The Millennium Show in the Central Arena of The Dome in Greenwich and the Opening Ceremony of the Millennium Dome.
